Quick interview : Thibaut Poizot
How did you wind up in rallying ?
It is a family story ! My parents, uncles, in-laws and girlfriend, who is also my co-driver, all participate in rallying and I grew up in this sport. I started off with my little cars in local and national rallies close to home. And then, little by little, I have climbed the ladder…
As a native of Gap, of course you had to do the Monte-Carlo…
Yes, my parents did it several times in the 1990’s and I’ve done it three times. I have fond memories of the 2017 edition where I finished second in the category. This is the type of experience that allows for making very fast progress. You accumulate as many kilometres in one leg as you do in three or four regional rallies !
How do you rate the start of your season ?
We have been running pretty well and I don’t think we could’ve done any better. I try to not overdo anything to avoid mistakes. With only two reconnaissance runs, you have to maintain a bit of a margin when you lack experience. It will be easier at Rouergue, which I did last year.
What is your goal for the rest of the season ?
To keep the rhythm during this long break, I will do the Matheysine and Laragnais rallies. It will be difficult to finish ahead of Florian Bernardi just on pace, but my goal is to be among the leaders each time out. At worst, I am aiming for second place in the Trophy !
What makes racing in the Clio R3T Trophy France interesting ?
Well, obviously there is the attractive prize scheme and the parity among the competitors. I also like the Renault Sport framework. We are well looked after on the rallies ! You can tell that a lot of effort has gone into providing us with first-rate equipment.
