Quick interview : Guillaume Jean
Congratulations for your first victory...
“I am thrilled ! I came into this weekend with the idea of scoring important points and having a clean rally. Despite a perfectible choice of tyres and set-ups on Saturday, I was on pace with the leaders. On Sunday, my bet on the front tyres paid off when I pushed on the two long special stages, but then there was the super-special left. I had to discover it, unlike Mathieu. I knew that he was going to give it his all, but I was able to set a good time !”
Why did you decide to do the Clio R3T Trophy France ?
“I got my start on motorcycles before switching to rallying on the Sainte-Baume in 2016. I had wanted to do it for a while, because my dad raced hill climbs for 25 years. I rented a car and it went pretty well. In 2017, I had a closer look at the Clio R3T Trophy France on the Mont-Blanc and I was able to put together a program with the help of the Chazel team and Renault… So, I got my start by buying a Clio R3T last December !”
How do you assess your first year ?
“Positive ! I lost on the podium on the Touquet due to an error on the super-special stage… Hence my concern on the Coeur de France last one ! It didn’t go so well on the Charbonnières, but everything went quite well on the Rouergue and Mont-Blanc, where I finished fourth despite rolling on SS1 !”
What is the goal for the Var and after ?
“It is going to be a fantastic battle in the Junior category between Mathieu, Thibaut and I. With the likely return of Florian Bernardi it will be tough to race for the win, but my target will be second place in the general classification and the Junior crown. The Clio R3T Trophy France offers proper top-level competition, a great atmosphere with a healthy prize scheme so I can definitely see myself returning i n 2019 !”
