e.dams-Renault in pole position at KIDZANIA LONDON
In advance of the inaugural Visa ePrix in Battersea Park this weekend, the Formula E championship front-running e.dams-Renault team visited KidZania London to officially open the Renault establishment in the presence of four times F1 World Champion Alain Prost and edams-Renault drivers Nicolas Prost and Sébastien Buemi.
KidZania London, the UK’s first educational entertainment experience for children aged between four and 14 years old, houses a true-to-life replica e.dams-Renault Formula E racing car, built at 3/4-scale specifically for the KidZania London Pit Lane Experience.
Alain Prost said : “The Renault Pit Lane Experience and Automotive Engineering Centre are absolutely fantastic ; the whole concept is unbelievable. I’m sure kids will love it here. Experience is one of the best things you can have when you are young. Together with Renault we have decided to be at the beginning of a new story and racing in Formula E is a natural move furthering EV technology.”
Ken Ramirez, Managing Director, Renault UK said : “Renault UK is delighted to be a partner with KidZania. We are very proud to celebrate today with the edams-Renault team the result of two years’ work to deliver this exciting experience to teach kids the benefits of zero-emission and electric vehicles in both the real world and on the race track.”
Joel Cadbury, Chairman, Kidzania London said : “We are thrilled that the e.dams team have taken the time to visit KidZania London to mark its launch, ahead of this weekend’s ePrix. Their visit at such a busy time for the team is further demonstration of their commitment to educating the next generation on the power of zero-emissions and providing an insight into the future of sustainable racing technology.”
Built by a team of 10 experts, over five months, the scale model e.dams-Renault Formula E racing car is pivotal to the Pit Lane Experience, immersing kids in the thrilling Renaultsport world of racing, educating them on the power of zero-emissions and giving an insight into the future of sustainable racing technology.
During the experience children will work together as a Renaultsport pit lane team, racing against the clock as they would at the trackside, where a hundredth of a second could be the difference between winning and losing.
All teams’ quickest times will then be included in a leader board, accessible via the KidZania London website, (http://kidzania.renault.co.uk/) and the fastest time of the season will have the opportunity to win a prize.
In addition to the exciting team activity, children will also experience the Automotive Engineering Centre where Renault’s knowledge and leadership in the world of Zero Emission (Z.E) sustainable mobility will educate children. Using the latest interactive display technology, children will be able to remove, analyse and reassemble individual components to compare their attributes, all through a futuristic touchscreen interface. This innovative solution enables the kids to understand the technologies and benefits of the all-electric Renault ZOE and petrol-engined Renault Clio.
In the Pit Lane Challenge, the scale model e.dams-Renault Formula E racing car required 200 hours of CAD engineering design using 5-axis technology to cut the bodywork. The car includes every last detail of the real racing car including the charging point, aerial and LED brake light. The wheel and tyre assembly was the most challenging component to make, taking 200 hours of research and development to achieve authentic but lightweight and safe units for the kids to handle. Bespoke wheel hub assemblies, wheel wrenches and sound effects were created to complete the experience and make the team activity as lifelike as possible.
As well as the Pit Lane Challenge and Z.E. Engineering Centre, Renault will also be supplying all the vehicles guests will see in KidZania such as the Ambulance, Fire Engine & City Tour Bus.
An experience like no other, KidZania London is the UK’s first Educational Entertainment Experience, a real-life introduction to the world of work, representing experiential learning at its very best, where children begin to understand and learn for themselves the nature of work, the diversity and function of businesses, and its overall contribution to well-being and prosperity in our world today.
KidZania London will be the 19th KidZania to open internationally and join what is a global phenomenon, having welcomed over 42 million visitors worldwide.
