With nearly 100 Clio Rallys, 59 Clio Cups and 10 Clio RXs in action, the fifth generation of Clio enjoyed a prolific weekend, once again demonstrating its incredible versatility, as well as its performance and reliability !

Clio Cup Series

Round four of the Clio Cup Series saw Gabriele Torelli and Anthony Jurado share the spoils at Spa-Francorchamps. On Saturday, the Italian won his duel with David Pouget that went right down to the last corner. On Sunday, Luca Franca took the chequered flag first, but a post-race penalty handed Anthony Jurado the win. Alessandro Brigatti and Pierre Bredeaux shared the wins in the Challengers Cup, while Luca Franca scored two victories in the Racers Cup. In the general classification, David Pouget still leads the Clio Cup Series, as does Gabriele Torelli in Clio Cup Europe and Clio Cup Mid-Europe and Nicolas Milan in Clio Cup France. Meanwhile, Alessandro Brigatti takes the reins in Clio Cup Italia ahead of the next round of the calendar at the Hungaroring (16-18 June).

Clio Trophy Spain Asfalto

Alejandro Martín, who won the Clio Trophy Canarias last year, was unstoppable on the Rally Recalvi Rías Baixas to claim his first success on the continent. The event, part of the Spanish Tarmac Rally Cup, attracted 13 crews. Alejandro Martín and co-driver Aday Ortiz went on the offensive to claim the lead on stage four and the TRS Racing Team crew eventually won by 24.9 seconds from Carlos Rodríguez and David Nieto, who snatched second place from Juan Carlos Fernández and Esther de la Torre by just a tenth of a second at the finish. Juan Carlos Fernández thus consolidated his lead in the general classification ahead of round three at the Rallye Cidade de Narón (21-22 July). Meanwhile, Unai de la Dehesa and Alan Peña drove Clio Rally4 to victory in their category.

French Junior Rallycross Championship

Valentin Lumet starred behind the wheel of his Clio RX in round two of the French Junior Rallycross Championship. Beaten in Lessay, Valentin Lumet and Marceau Launay didn’t let anyone get in their way as they went head-to-head in Faleyras. After sharing the heats and semi-finals, the final saw the former take the lead over his rival with a fine attack. Louka Bourd completed the podium ahead of Alizée Pottier and Kelig Gouesbet. With this success, Valentin Lumet takes command of the general classification ahead of the next round in Châteauroux (24-25 June).

French Rally Cup

Clio Rally3, Clio Rally4 and Clio Rally5 enjoyed another prolific weekend in the French Rally Cup. Clio Rally3 again won its category and finished fifth overall on the Rallye de la Luronne with Jean-Renaud Marchal and Julien Pressac. Meanwhile, Clio Rally4 and Clio Rally5 took double victories, with Thomas Bordagaray - Antoine Loiseau and Antoine Bordagaray - Alan Autegarden on the Rallye du Val de Sèvre, and Éric Mauduit - Sophie Chauveau and Arthur Roché - Quentin Proust on the Rallye du Lochois. Clio Rally5 also won with Jérémy Jamet and Marine Journet on the Rallye Savoie Chautagne, Florian Bartaire and Marjolaine Patier on the Rallye de la Briance, Corentin Deleval and Laurine Carlier on the Rallye des Boucles Capelloises and Régis Personne and Sandrine Pernot on the Rallye de la Luronne.

The Clio Rally cars rallying also enjoyed further successes throughout Europe.

Clio Rally4 won with Paulo Correia and Luís Ribeiro in the X5-16 class at the Rali Alitém Sabril City Stage (Portugal), where they finished sixth overall. Clio Rally5 also won its class, with Tim Wacker and Ann Felke finishing seventh overall on the ADAC Potzberg Rally (Germany). In Italy, Giovanni Marco Lanzalaco and Massimo Moriconi won the Rally5 category on the Rally Internazionale del Taro. Ennio Bini and Marta De Paoli led a Clio Rally5 sweep of the top three in RC5N in the national version of the event. Meanwhile, Nicola Schileo and Matteo Zaramella triumphed in their Clio Rally5 on the Rally della Marca Trevigiana.

Staying in Europe, Sebastian Scîrlet and Sebastian Itu won their class and the trophy dedicated to Clio Rally5 at the Raliul Argeșului (Romania). In parallel, Croatians Vjekoslav Čičko and Eugen Kokoli dominated their class with Clio Rally5 at Rally Velenje (Slovenia), as did Kasper Nyman Andersen and Claus Kammersgaard at Rally Vestsjælland (Denmark) and Jack Brennan and John McGrath at the Cavan Stages Rally (Ireland). Lastly, the Czechs Tomáš Večerka and Michal Cibulka did the same on Slovakia Rallye Tatry (Slovakia), where Clio Rally4 finished in the overall top three in the Motorsport Rally Cup.

Coming up

This week, the Clio Trophy France Terre heads to Corsica for the first time ever, where 36 crews will compete on the Rallye Terre d’Aléria (1-3 June). With two wins from two rounds, Jean-Sébastien Vigion will look to increase his lead over the chase group. Meanwhile, the Clio Trophy Spain Tierra will resume on the Rallye Reina de León (3-4 June) for round two of its calendar following Ramón Cornet’s season-opening success. Two private Clio Rally5s will also be in action at Rally Italia Sardegna (1-4 June), round six of the FIA World Rally Championship.
