Further successes in the WRC and NACAM for Clio Rally5, a fourth consecutive victory for Clio Rally3, and an overall win for Clio Rally4 in the French Rally Cup... A look back at a productive weekend for Renault Clio !
FIA World Rally Championship
Ecuadorians Javier Serrano and Daniel Galarza had a solid and consistent run on the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, taking the lead in the two-wheel drive class on SS11 before winning with Clio Rally4 by more than 13 minutes over their closest RC4 rivals. Meanwhile, the French duo of Maxim Salin and Sandrine Catoire dominated the RC5 category to take Clio Rally5’s 16th world championship win ahead of another Clio Rally5 entered by the Lithuanian crew of Audronis Gulbinas and Vytis Pauliukonis.
FIA NACAM Rally Championship
Rally Aguascalientes saw Clio Rally5 continue its fine run with another win thanks to Gustavo Uriostegui and Jaime Zapata. The Mexican pair won the NACAM Junior class and took first place in the two-wheel drive category and fourth place overall in NACAM and the Mexican Rally Championship. With this success, the winners are now getting closer to leaders Emiliano and Diego Retama in the general classification ahead of the next scheduled rounds this summer.
And elsewhere
Clio Rally3 continued its flawless record by winning the RC3 and Rally3 categories on the Rallye International Ain-Jura, which counts towards the French Rally Cup and the European Rally Trophy. The Swiss duo of Cédric Baiker and Pierre Dupont finished seventh in the ERT and third in the Michelin Alps Open Trophy with the new model. In the same event, Damien Gouttefangeas and Geoffrey Combe led a hat-trick of Clio Rally5s in their category.
Staying in the French Rally Cup, Clio Rally4 won the Rallye Côtes des Nacres Costa Serena with Paul-André Mariani and Julien Bonifet. Clio Rally5 was just as successful on the Corsican asphalt, with Marc Pompei and Alexandre Guerrini finishing fourth overall and winning their class. Clio Rally5 also won the Rallye des Monts de Vaucluse with Sylvain Rouquette - Marjorie Mercier and the Rallye de Printemps Canet with Laurent Reboul and Antonin Pomarede, as did Louis Quetier and Alexandre Leblanc at the Rallye du Printemps de Bords, where Thomas Bordagaray and Antoine Loiseau finished in the top five with their Clio Rally4.
Elsewhere in Europe, Clio Rally4 won in the two-wheel drive category and finished third in the Rollsbo City Race (Sweden) with Simon and Frida Andersson. The model also took second place in LARČ4 at the Lietuva Rally (Lithuania) with Thomas Martens and Marc Huysegems. Jakub Vlček won in F3 while finishing fourth in the Rentor Rallycup Kopřivnice V (Czech Republic). Lastly, Clio Rally4 scored a double podium with the crews of Gonçalo Henriques - Gonçalo Cunha and Hugo Mesquita - Valter Cardoso in the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, which counts towards the Portuguese Two-Wheel Drive Rally Championship.
Clio Rally5 won in Italy with Nicola Angilletta and Michael Adam Berni on Rally Internazionale Golfo dell’Asinara and Andrea De Nunzio and Sara Nico on Rally della Valle Intelvi. In Ireland, Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy’s Jack Brennan and John McGrath claimed their fifth consecutive win with Clio Rally5 on the Tipperary Sean Conlon Memorial Forestry Rally.
Coming up
This week, Clio Rally3 will debut in the French Asphalt Rally Championship with the teams of Styve Juif - Maxime Biegalke and Tom Pieri - Alexis Maillefert. Three Clio Rally4s will also be at the start of the Antibes Côte d’Azur Rally, which will host the second round of the Clio Trophy France Asphalte with 48 Clio Rally5s battling.
Clio Rally3 will also make its first appearance in the FIA European Rally Championship with Paulo Soria and co-driver Marcelo Der Ohannesian. Four Clio Rally4s will also be present at Rally Poland. Lastly, Clio Trophy Belgium competitors will be taking part in the second meeting of their season at Sezoens Rally.
