Happy birthday Carlos Sainz !
The 2011 Formula Renault 2.0 NEC winner and the reigning Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion, Carlos Sainz has added his name to the long list of World Series by Renault drivers to have earned a slot on the Formula One start grid. Today he celebrates his 21st birthday.
The son of the two-time world rally champion, Carlos Sainz started out in karting, making the move to single-seater racing in 2010, a year in which he appeared in four Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 races. The young Spaniard completed his first full campaign the following season with Koiranen Motorsport, taking the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup title and second place in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 behind Robin Frijns.
After a spell in Formula Three, Carlos Sainz made his return to World Series by Renault in 2013 with Zeta Corse before going on to win the 2014 crown with DAMS, courtesy of seven victories.
That second championship win in a Renault Sport single seater earned him a place in the elite, with Sainz signing for F1 team Scuderia Toro Rosso for the 2015 season a few weeks later.
The World Series by Renault team wishes him a very happy birthday.
