Since September, the technical partnership between the racing category and the Renault Sport teams has stuck to a tried-and-tested formula, covering three key aspects : reliability, safety and fairness. And the French manufacturer, with its impressive know-how, has delivered on all three so far.

It was therefore no surprise that Renault Sport was chosen as one of the eight manufacturers that will be able to work on the electric motor, gearbox, inverter and cooling system in the series’ second season. The people at Les Ulis nevertheless continue their efforts for all of the drivers and teams in order to keep building on the growing success of this first campaign.

The venue for the year’s fifth round, Miami is the largest city in Florida. Highly proactive its commitment to sustainable development, the “Gateway to the Americas” has supported the emergence of initiatives supplementing its public transport network, in which the electric-powered Metromover plays a significant part. Sustainable mobility also occupies a central role, via an all-electric bike-sharing system and car-sharing solutions in which the Renault-Nissan Alliance is involved.

Located in the heart of Miami, between the Everglades National Park and the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserve, the 2,170 metre-long track offers a combination of long straights and eight 90° turns. The Spark-Renault SRT01_E single-seaters will complete 39 laps of this temporary track, where slipstream and energy management will be vital.

A wide variety of attractions will be available throughout the day. In the eVillage, members of the public will be able to see the most powerful electric vehicle in the world up close or go to the driver autograph-signing session. After a fine debut in Buenos Aires, the Formula E School Series returns, where ten local schools will compete in electric single-seaters they have built themselves. The race will be held as a curtain-raiser to the main ePrix.

“Everyone can’t wait to be in Miami, a key stage in the development of the championship and in raising the profile of electric vehicles in the American market,” said Roberto Dlacic, Renault Sport Technologies Engineer assigned to the FIA Formula E Championship. “Due to the configuration of the track, which is very short and has no chicanes, energy management and recovery will be crucial. Temperatures are however expected to be slightly cooler than in Buenos Aires. The drivers will also have to factor in there being more grip due to the better quality surface. Lastly, we continue our search for maximum reliability and safety for all of the twenty drivers and ten teams competing, as demonstrated in our commitment since the start of the season.”
