Since the first ever ePrix was held in September of last year, the people at Renault Sport have continued to show the quality of their know-how as a technical partner of the series since its inception. Their carefully-chosen architecture and integration solutions have proven sound thus far, but they continue to re-assess and re-evaluate matters in order to perfect the reliability and safety of the single-seaters, whilst ensuring that complete sporting fairness is maintained between the competitors.

Round four of the series is due to be held in Buenos Aires, the Argentinian capital, a city renowned for its promotion of sustainable mobility. The Latin American city has, for example, won a number of awards for actions taken to limit the release of greenhouse gases and to improve urban infrastructure. The organisation of the Buenos Aires ePrix has equally been widely supported by the local authorities.

The first manufacturer in Argentina to offer test drives of electric vehicles with Kangoo ZE and Twizy ZE, Renault and its subsidiary have been closely following the level of interest in zero-emissions cars in the country. Studies conducted have led to an agreement with Enel-Endesa and its subsidiary, Edesur, which will be the first supplier of charging terminals once electric vehicles go on sale in the country.

The 40 Spark-Renault SRT01_E single-seaters registered in the championship will battle it out over 35 laps on a 2.44-kilometre track designed by Santiago Garcia Remohi in the heart of Puerto Madero, one of the capital’s most modern districts. Featuring twelve turns in total and combining fast corners, chicanes and hairpins, the city centre circuit located right next to the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve will offer several overtaking opportunities for the drivers, who will need to manage their energy carefully.

In the eVillage, fans will have the chance to see models from the Renault ZE line-up, including Twizy and Kangoo ZE, which will take part in demonstrations. Spectators will also be able to enjoy FanBoost-related activities or watch a Formula E School Series for the first time, where ten local schools will fight it out in electric cars they have assembled themselves as a curtain-raiser to the main ePrix.

“After having managed the changes in road surface and the sand in Punta del Este, the teams will once again have to deal with the challenge of high temperatures in the streets of Buenos Aires,” commented Roberto Dlacic, Renault Sport Technologies Engineer assigned to the FIA Formula E Championship. “We will again be racing next to the coast, but the problems posed by the sand should be less significant than in Uruguay. The circuit set up by the organisers should be plenty of fun for the drivers with its variety of turns. Energy management and any safety car periods are likely to be the crucial factors. And finally, although we continue to be very pleased with the reinforcements we made to the gearbox installation in Putrajaya, we are continuing to work on reliability and safety issues for all the drivers and teams.”
